In 1944 Roy was drafted into the war. This, of course, left Frona with the job of keeping the family fed. Roy served two years in the army. One year was spent overseas in France and other places. When Roy returned from the service, they bought land on what was known as the Light Ridge. It is located 2 1/2 miles off Highway 7 between Cowell and Lurton. They built their home and lived there until the late 50's. They then bought their present farm at Lurton.
Roy has farmed, worked at stavemills, and was a carpenter.
In 1976 they decided they wanted to build a new home, so at the ages 69 and 64, they tore down an old house and built their present home.
They still have a big garden and a patch of field corn for homegrown cornmeal.
They reared their children to be honest and to believe in God. They attend church at the Cowell Community Church at Cowell, Arkansas.
