HOWARD—Mrs. Myrtle Johnston, 34, wife of James Bathgate, died Sunday, October 25, 1953 at the Lock Haven Hospital 10 days after the birth of a daughter, Alta Lucinda.
She was a native of Howard, born February 3, 1919, daughter of Clarence D. and the late Blanche Schenck Johnston.
She was active in community life. A member of the Methodist Church, she headed the Woman’s Society of Christian Service for four years, and was a member of the Civiv Club, PTA and Band Mothers Association.
She was married September 12, 1937 to James Bathgate, who survived, with her father and three children, Bobby Jim, 10; Tommy, 6, and a new baby; also a sister, Mrs. C.F. Taylor of Harrisburg, and a brother, W. Dean Johnston, Dover, Delaware.
Services wren held at the Howard Methodist Church with the Reverend Francis Geiger officiating, assisted by the Reverend L. P. Markley.
Burial was in Schenck Cemetery.
