JAMES W. BATHGATE

James W. Bathgate, 77, of Bellefonte formerly of Howard died Wednesday, June 28, 1995, at Centre Community Hospital.
He was born May 25, 1918 in Lemont, a son of the late Willis B. and Amelia Neese Bathgate. He married Myrtle R Johnston who died in 1951. In 1955 he married Eleanor J. Moore who survived.
He was raised on a dairy farm in Little Nittany. A 1935 graduate of Howard High School he received a certificate of vocational education from Penn State and was a guest lecturer in the Industrial Engineering Department of Penn State. Mr. Bathgate was a welder in the Tool and Die department of Cerro Metal products Bellefonte until his retirement in 1982. Thereafter he was a metallurgy consultant.
He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Bellefonte, and served on the church consistory, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No 1094 Masonic Lodge of Bellefonte, 268 Free and Accepted Masons Scottish Rite, and Jaffa Temple both of Altoona, former president of Centre County Shrine Club, member of Nittany Country Club, life member of Undine Fire Company, Bellefonte, and Central District Firemans Association, member of United Auto Workers Retirees Association, former president and board member of Titan Federal Credit Union, board member of Union Cemetery Association, Bellefonte, member of American Welding Association and a former member of Howard Borough Council. He was an avid hunter and golfer.
In addition to his wife, he was survived by one daughter, Cynthia D. Cowan of Julian; two sons, Thomas A. Bathgate of Abington and Robert J. Bathgate of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; one sister, Emetine E. Dorman of Howard and seven grandchildren.
Friends were received at the W. Robert Neff Funeral Home, Howard. His funeral was at St John's United Church of Christ with the Reverend John M Rimert officiating.
Burial was at Schencks Cemetery, Howard Township.
