William (Bill) Thomas Allmond, age 72, of Meridian Idaho, passed away on April 9, 2014. He passed peacefully while at home with his loving wife Ilene Allmond. The funeral service was held on April 12, 2014 at 3pm at Ten Mile Christian Church, 3500 W. Franklin Rd Meridian, Idaho 83642.
Bill was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania April 11, 1941. He was preceded in death by his Father Ermine Allmond, his mother Grace Allmond, and his brother Barry Allmond. Bill leaves behind his sister, Debbie Kielczynski and husband Caz Kielczynski, Cousins Jim and Jeannie McMinn, Bob and Mary McMinn, and Uncle Ronnie Chambers and Aunt Mary Lou Coder.
Surviving children are son Robert T. Allmond and wife Donnita, with their son Kai Miller in Independence, Kentucky. His daughter Michelle L. Ganger in Troy, Ohio with her children Julian Burns, Makayla Ganger and Kaylee Dillinger, in addition, son-in-law Donald Burns, Julian's father.
Bill graduated from Altoona High in 1959 and was nicknamed "sleepy", due to him playing drums at night clubs. He attended Indiana State Teachers College in Indiana, Pennsylvania where he mastered in Band and Orchestra. Bill's first passion was making music and playing drums. He recorded the 1959 hit songs "Sea Cruise" and "Time After Time" with Frankie Ford & the True Tones.
In 1961, Bill joined the United States Army. Bill continued his love of music while serving two tours in Vietnam where he played music with the USO. In 1967, Bill was honorably discharged as rank E5 Sergeant, receiving a good conduct medal, National Defense medal and an expert marksman with rifle bar medal.
In 1967, Bill along with a few Army musicians played music at various resorts and hotels throughout New York City area. While touring cross country, in 1969, Bill met his wife in December, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They were married January 25, 1970 in Los Angeles, California and had been married for 44 years. Due to being married and having a family, Bill quit playing music for a brief period.
Bill also learned to drive bus in the Army and when returned was employed from 1970 to 1987 at Trailways Bus Company. Bill worked for RTA, Regional Transit Authority, in Dayton, Ohio until 1994. Bill was seriously injured and told he would never walk again. However, Bill defeated opposition and regained the ability to walk. In 1995, Bill and Ilene moved out west to Idaho. Bill started playing music again and played as the house band at the Ranch Club with Mike Heeb. He also played music with Ross Miller and other musicians in Boise, Idaho.
In 2002, Bill became friends with Dale Marshall who helped to awaken Bill's spiritual calling to the Lord. Bill was re-baptized and followed Christ, working to build God's kingdom one soul at a time with his abundant words of affirmation for Christ.
