Son of Mahlon Brice Burkhart and Myrtle Mae Chase Numer Burkhart. Thomas was in the 600th Air Engineers, 7th Air Service Group, in Japan after WORLD WAR II. He was discharged as a corporal on November 6, 1946. He never married nor had any children. He continued to live in his mother's home in Reightown where he had grown up after her death in 1959. The home had no central heat, plumbing or electricity. But he did own a new 1953 Ford and a new 1957 Willys truck. He worked at Charlie Schmittle's Esso station on the Main Street of Bellwood, Pa. He had earlier worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a crane operator at the Samuel Rea shops in Hollidaysburg, Pa. He went to work for his friend, Charlie Schmittle, after being laid off and never went back to the railroad, even when recalled. He died at the Veterans Hospital in Altoona. He was survived by his sisters, Naomi V Bowers of Huntingdon and Arlene Salyer of Reightown and brothers, Mahlon V Burkhart of Saco, Maine and Harry Numer of Altoona. He was predeceased by his brother Allen Burkhart and sisters Lillian Burkhart and Dorothy Numer. He died at the Veteran's Hospital in Altoona after an extended illness.

Sunday, March 8, 1964, in the Altoona Veterans Administration Hospital, where he had bnen a patient for the past two weeks, after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona Jan 3. 1926, a son of Mahlon B. and Myrtle (Chase) Burkhart. Surviving are two brothers and two sisters, Mahlon, Harry Numer of Altoona, Mrs. Naomi Bowers of Huntingdon and Mrs Arlene Salyer of near Reightown. He was a veteran of Army service in World War II and had been employed at the Schmittle Service Station in Bellwood.
