Michael Grant Bowers,Sr., died on February 22, 2009 at 6:45 A.M. at Manor Care Health Services in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He was born in Bellwood, Pennsylvania on June 25,1922. Michael was the son of Joel Bowers and Martha Adele (Pletcher) Bowers. His wife of 56 years, Naomi Virginia (Burkhart) Bowers predeceased him in 1998. He is survived by his four children, Michael G Bowers, Jr., of Altoona, Pa; Connie Gates of Chambersburg, Pa.; Joel Bowers of Rohrersville, Md.; and Anita Bowers of Huntingdon, Also surviving are eight grandchildren, eight greatgrandchildren and three greatgreat grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Jane Bricker of Bellwood, Pa and Betty Hirsch of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Catherine Hand and two brothers, Joel Bowers and Robert Bowers.
After the death of his wife, Michael had resided with his daughter Connie and her family in Chambersburg.
Michael served in the 8th Army Air Corps in England during World War II. Michael retired from the State Correctional Institution at Huntingdon where he was a correctional officer for over 25 years. He had formerly worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad in Altoona.
At his request, there will be no services. Burial will be at the Blair Memorial Park in Bellwood, Pa.
After the death of his wife, Michael had resided with his daughter Connie and her family in Chambersburg.
