Beamon lived across the street from my youngest son, Kory, in Olivehurst, CA.. He was a good kid, well mannered and respectful of his elders. He had a big heart and always tried to look out for others. This may have caused his death.

Beamon's bravery and selflessness saved Angela Welch's life. But, in the process , it also claimed Hill's young life.

Angela, a 16-year-old Linda girl who Hill pushed out of harm's way, wants the world to know that he is a hero. She said Hill's actions not only kept her alive but, helped saved about two dozen others who were in the classroom when tragedy struck.

On May 1, (also son Kory's birthday) a 22 year old ex student at Lindhurst High School came into the school's C Building with a shotgun and a sawed-off 22-caliber rifle bent on revenge against one of his ex teachers that had flunked him in a class in his senior year. His name was Eric Christopher Houston. The teacher was Robert Brens. By flunking this class, Houston wasn't allowed to graduate with his class in 1989. He blamed all of his problems since then on Mr. Brens.

Houston was convicted on July 22, 1993 of 4 murders; Mr. Brens, Beamon, Judy Davis and Jason White and 10 counts of attempted murder. At Houston's sentencing, Beamon's mother, Joe Ann Hill, said, "The last year has been a strange one for all of us. Things are just not the same. We don't plan anything anymore; we just do things day by day.
The Bible say, 'Thou shalt not kill.' I just want justice to be done. I just want the law to take care of him the way it is supposed to."

The movie, HOSTAGE HIGH, starring Rick Schroeder and Freddie Prinze Jr. is one movie made of this tragedy.
