His name was Eric Christopher Houston. The teacher was Robert Brens. By flunking this class, Houston wasn't allowed to graduate with his class in 1989. He blamed all of his problems since then on Mr. Brens.
Houston was convicted on July 22, 1993 of 4 murders; Mr. Brens, Beamon, Judy Davis and Jason White and 10 counts of attempted murder. At Houston's sentencing, Beamon's mother, Joe Ann Hill, said, "The last year has been a strange one for all of us. Things are just not the same. We don't plan anything anymore; we just do things day by day.
