Mr. Charles Gilbert Sr.
Mr. Charles William Gilbert Sr., 70, of 10540 Daysville Road, Walkersville, died Tuesday, Oct. 23. He was the husband of Mida Mae Holland Gilbert, whom he married June 1, 1953.
Born March 28, 1931, in Mountaindale, he was a son of the late Peter I. and Ethel R. Stull Gilbert.
Mr. Gilbert operated bulldozers and other heavy equipment, and most recently had been employed with R.B. Stine Co., Woodsboro.
He enjoyed fishing and cutting firewood, which he sold. Along with his wife, he helped raise more than 70 foster children during the past 38 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are children C. William Gilbert Jr. and wife Debby of Westminster, Judith Ann Gilbert of Walkersville, Susan Marie Ramsburg and husband Patrick of Fairfield, Pa., Yarnell I. Gilbert, Steven P. Gilbert and Michelle M. Gilbert, all of Walkersville, and Debbie Cockrell of Emmitsburg; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, Lillian Wiles and husband Norman of Mountaindale, and Marie Smith of Frederick; one brother, Clarence I. Gilbert and wife Rebecca of Frederick; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Home, 1201 N. Market St., Frederick. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the funeral home. The Rev. Larry Staner, pastor of the Church of the Open Door, Westminster, will officiate.
Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
