Mr. Charles Crum

Mr. Charles Preston Crum, 79, of Keymar, died on Wednesday morning, July 14, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Peggy V. Ford Crum, who died in Dec. 2001. Born in Frederick, Nov. 4, 1924, Mr. Crum was a son of the late Henry Clay Crum and Mary Frances Kolb Crum Tobery. Mr. Crum was the stepson of the late Clarence U. Tobery.

Mr. Crum was a veteran of World War II, and had served with the Army-Air Force in Europe. After his honorable discharge, he owned and operated the Frederick Cab Company in Frederick, and later the Barnes store in Mount Pleasant from 1957 until 1965. Until his retirement in the late 1990s, Mr. Crum had owned an accounting firm for many area businesses and individuals. He had been a member and officer of many professional accounting organizations and a former member and president of the Corvair Club.

Surviving are his daughter, Victoria Lynn Haines and her fiancZ David Hoffman of Keymar; one son, Charles Portner Crum and his wife Toni of Union Bridge; two grandchildren, Hilary Anne Jones and husband Bradley of Woodsboro, and Jessica Marie Curran of Union Bridge; and one great-granddaughter, Madelyne Jones; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Crum was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters, Clifford Crum, Spencer Crum, John Crum, Leonard Crum, Gene Crum, Pauline Goodhart, Annabelle Hildebrand and Marguerite Coy.

The family will receive friends at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, on Friday, July 16, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 17, at 10 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Carroll A. Doggett Jr., a pastor of the United Methodist Church, will officiate. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
