Mrs. Ruby Marie Carey, 77, of Frederick, died Sunday, April 15, at Northampton Manor Nursing Home. She was the wife of Robert W. Carey, who died in 1982. Born Feb. 23, 1924, in Frederick, she was a daughter of the late John Sherman and Evie Elsroad Fink. Mrs. Carey enjoyed singing. As a child in the 1930s, she had her own radio show on WFMD in Frederick. She was known as the "Little Girl with the Big Voice." She was a clerk/typist, first at Sagner's Clothing, then Potomac Edison, and later for the Department of Social Services for 26 years. She retired in 1976. After her retirement, Mrs. Carey sang at nursing homes and at veterans' ceremonies in the Frederick area. She was a Protestant. She was a 1940 graduate of Frederick High School. Surviving is one son, Robert W. Carey Jr. of Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Capt. Sam Hearne of the Salvation Army will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1003, Frederick, Md. 21702.
