William Harold Crabill, Sr., 73, of 125 Doub Way, Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Monday, April 9, 2012, at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

Born September 7, 1938, in Washington, D. C. he was the son of the late William Ray and Evelyn Mae Staubs Crabill.

He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1956, and from the Maryland State Police Academy in 1962.

He was formerly employed with Frederick City Police, and then with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office from 1975 to 1991.

He was a former member of the United Fire Company #3, and Junior Fire Company #2, both in Frederick, Maryland, and the Civil Air Patrol. He was also a former member of Boy Scouts of America, in Frederick MD and Hanover, PA; the Moose Club in McSherrystown, PA, and was a Red Cross instructor in Frederick.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Swope Crabill; four sons, William H. Crabill, Jr. and his wife, Dawn, Ramon Lee Crabill, and his wife, Theresa, Vincent Carroll Crabill, Sr., and his wife, Michelle, and Vic Christopher Crabill, Sr. and his wife, Denise; one daughter, Lori Annette Crabill; two sisters, Beverly Ann Hedrick, and her husband, Robert, and Barbara Ellen Whisenant, and her husband, John; one brother, James Ray Crabill, and his wife, Beverly; fourteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one grandchild.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Roman Catholic Church, Frederick, MD.

There will be no viewing.

Family requests omission of flowers, and memorial donations be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 West Washington Street, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740, or St. Joseph Catholic Church, 17630 Virginia Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740.
