Son of James Newton Hunter and Cynthia Hayes. He earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University. He first married Mattie Erwin in 1882 as she was dying from TB. Shortly after her death he answered a call for a doctor in Mt. Selman Texas. There he married Jessie Bone and they had three children. Jessie died in 1892, and the next year he married Bernice Jones. They built a house in the town of Bullard and there added nine children of their own(three died in infancy). The house in Bullard still stands - you would know it by the big letter H on the chimney. Dr. Hunter as a well-respected and loved Father, doctor and member of the community. He tended to the ill no matter the time or their circumstances.
