Ruth L. Montrie, 100 years, of Temperance, MI, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in the Bedford Elderly Care Center in Temperance, where she had been a resident for the past 3 years. Born November 3, 1902 in Whiteford Twp., Michigan, she was the daughter of John and Anna (LaPointe) Henning. A 1920 graduate of Scott High School, she married Leon Montrie on June 18, 1929, and he preceded her in death on October 17, 1977. She received her teaching certificate from Toledo Normal in 1921, and her masters degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University in 1953. She started her teaching career at Lincoln School in Toledo, and taught at various schools, retiring from the Bedford Public Schools in 1968. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, The Bedford Senior Center and it's R.S.V.P., MEA and the NEA.
Ruth was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Grace Henning and Helen Heitkamp. She is survived by her loving children, Ann (Ed) Myers of Ottawa Lake, MI and Robert (Elsie) Montri of Toledo; sister-in-law, Theresa Montrie of Erie, MI; 9 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2-9 pm Wednesday in the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Road (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where Scripture services will be held Wednesday at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:30 am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, where she will lie in state after 9:30 am. Fr. Steve Vileo, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment Toledo Memorial Park, Sylvania, OH. Memorials may be made to Mercy Memorial Hospice, Monroe, MI.
