Both parents born in Ohio according to the censuses. However this does not match with other evidence I have for his mother.

He spent his youth in Ohio and in 1851 he moved to Mackinaw, Illinois. He lived there until 1865 when the family moved from Tazewell County, Illinois to Linn County, Kansas. The family lived there until moving to Mt. Vernon, Washington in March, 1890. The last year his children can be found in Linn County schools is 1888.

The first land record found in Linn County for Joseph Robinson was found in Book F; pages 134 & 135 dated August 5, 1868 where he purchase the land from Samuel A. and Susan J. Morrow for $500. The legal description is as follows: "... the west half of the South East quarter of Section No Eighteen (18) in Township No twenty two of Range no twenty three in Linn County Kansas containing eighty acres more or less...". They sold this to D.W. Hornbeck on August 6, 1869 for $650. {Book G; Pg 163} This land is in Mound City Township about 5 miles straight west of Mound City.

The following is the legal description of the Linn County Kansas land owned by Joseph Robinson and willed to his wife, Rachel M. at the time of his death. Township 22S; Range 24E; Section 17; Southeast 1/4 for about 160 acres [purchased March 7, 1884 from Maria M. & J.S. Atkinson {Book 29; Pg 630} and Township 22S; Range 24E; Section 20; Northeast 1/4 of the Northwest 1/4 plus 10 acres off of the west side of the Northwest 1/4 of the Northeast 1/4 for total of 50 acres. Section 17 is just to the southeast of Mound City. In the 1870 census he listed $1,500 in personal property, but no value for real estate. In the 1875 census he listed real estate valued at $1,000 and personal property at $500. Both censuses he was listed as a farmer. The Linn County Tax list for 1875 shows he paid taxes on the 50 acres in Section 20. A Warranty Deed (Book 29; pg 630) dated March 7, 1884 was found for the Section 17 property. The land book for the Section 17 property (page 269) shows that they purchased the property from M.M. Atkinson and in 1901 Rachel sold it to J.D. Bacon. Also see Book 58; page 173.

He died at the home of his son-in-law, Mayor Fred Pape. He had been suffering for over a year with an abscess of the lungs. "The skill of the best physicians of teh state was called to his relief, but he was beyond human aid..."

He was a member of the Episcopal church.

Joseph's will was filed in the Superior Court of Skagit County, Washington on August 9th, 1893. It was forwarded to the Probate Court in Linn County, Kansas on October 28th, 1893.

A researcher in Skagit County found a Joseph, Lucy and Harry Robinson in the Mount Vernon cemetery, however it was noted that Joseph and Lucy were removed and transported to Seattle. The cemetery records in Lake View back this up. Joseph, Rachel, Willis, Jeffie and Lucy are all buried in Plot E 1/2 #210.
