Kings County Sheriff's Department Deputy Allen T. Sharra was responding to a call for assistance from another deputy, when his patrol car hit a canal embankment. He was killed on impact. His ride along, teen Explorer Luis Verdugo, was severely injured in the crash. Sharra had been a deputy for the department only 8 months, but was dedicated to law enforcement and took every opportunity to work. He was also a devoted family man.
