The son of Emmanuel Baldacchino and Antonia Casha, Joseph married Carmela Barbara of Zejtun in September 1952, at Tarxien's Parish Church, and fathered three children.
A Plasterer by profession, he was assigned with the plastering of numerous Churches and Convents across Malta, mainly through the initiative of his personal friend, Msgr. Michele Gonzi (1885 - 1984), the First Metropolitan Archbishop of the named Archdiocese. He took care among others of the plastering of the Archdiocesan Seminary - where he was in charge of the apartment in which Pope John Paul II (1920 - 2005), resided during his visit to Malta in 1990 - and the Archbishop's Curia. For his contributions throughout the years for the Feasts of Good Friday and of the Immaculate Conception celebrated on December 8, Baldacchino received several honoreficences.
A close friend since his teenage years to Future Canons Joseph Bonello, Gustavo Maria Barbara, Joseph Zammit, and Sculptor, Louis Vassallo, they gave togheter a vast contribution to the Parish Church of the Immaculate Conception of Cospicua.
Baldacchino died on Thursday, February 3, 2005, aged 75, after being recovered for two days at St. Luke's Hospital. His Funeral Mass was said at Cospicua's Collegiate Parish Church on Saturday, February 5, where a huge crowd of Cospicuans gathered to pay their respects. A Cortege followed whilst 21 Firework Salutes where fired. He was buried in one of the Vaults of the Crucifix Fraternity of the Collegiate of Cospicua at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery, Paola.
