My Great-Great Grandmother. A native of Senglea, Malta, Caterina De Barro married Nicola Orlando from Cospicua in 1896. Mothering four children, she died at the early age of 25, a month after giving birth to her last child, M'Carmela. Upon delivering her last child on August 10, 1901, young Caterina contracted fever and both her and her daughter, were dead by September 11. She was laid to rest at St. Gregory's Cemetery in Zejtun.

Her first child, John Baptist, born on January 25, 1897, died in infancy. The other two, the only ones to survive, were Peter, born on August 16, 1898, who died still unmarried in tragic circumstances at an early age in the United States; and Giovanna, born on December 3, 1899, who later married John Baptist Barbara of Tarxien on October 16, 1921, and mothered three children.
