The 2nd Massachusetts Cavalry consisted primarily of men from the states of California and Massachusetts, and served in the Eastern Theater, despite it's western roots. Many of the California men either had come from the east or had family connections.

Mr. Beebe enlisted in the Union Army on February 16, 1863. Company L was formed in March 1863 and arrived in Massachusetts in April. The entire Regiment than served the Union cause. He was eventually promoted to Corporal. The men were mustered out July 20, 1865, at Fairfax Court House, Virginia. Mr. Beebe than returned to California.

He was a member of the Upton Post #29 of the Grand Army of the Republic, Eureka, Nevada. Mr. Beebe was a delegate to the National Encampment held in San Francisco, CA in 1886.
