Private, Co. K, 7th MA Infantry
Henry, the son of John M. and Patrina Beebe, sailed on the whaling ship Canton II out of New Bedford in 1855. The voyage would have lasted between two to three years.
He married Rachel Bicknell Noyes, age 24, on Apr. 8, 1860 at Wrentham, MA. Rachel, who was born at Abington, MA in 1836, was the daughter of John and Rebecca Noyes.
He enlisted on Jun. 15, 1861 and was mustered that same day as a Private in Co. K of the 7th Massachusetts Infantry. He was killed in action at Fredericksburg, VA on May 3, 1863 and was buried close to the spot where he fell. His unidentified remains were later interred at Fredericksburg National Cemetery.
