Son of Allen G and Anna Gowell Abbot. Husband of Vesta Heath Abbot.
George enlisted Sept 21, 1861 at age 25 into Co F 9th Maine Infantry Regiment as a Corporal. He was promoted Sergeant in 1862. He re-enlisted Jan. 12, 1864. He was taken prisoner July 20, 1864 at the battle of Petersburg.
He died at Danville Prison. George had four brothers also in the war that all survived:
