He married first to Almy Ette Rainolds. They had four children before her death in 1880; Julia Ann, Lorine Ebenezer, Ira Augustus, and an infant.
Ira then married Catherine Nibel 1 Oct 1881 in Lucas County, Iowa (Iowa Marriages 1851-1900).
He died at the Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
