Death: Aug. 18, 1885, USA

One of the founders of the Elks' Organization. Stage performer.

Suicided by gas asphyxiation in his unpaid boarding room, surrounded by a few things he had not pawned. His clever plays and songs made small fortunes for others, but he made little from them, personally.

Husband of Jennie Gilmore d 1874. Second wife died about 1879.

Linguist, painter in oils and water colors. The night of his suicide, he wrote a poem called "Death" and pasted it to a woman's skull he had on his table.
