Lula Mae (Dawson) Sally, 92, of Portsmouth, went home to Heaven to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice Center. She was born August 25, 1920 in Sciotoville, a daughter of the late Israel Armstrong and Mary Cooper Dawson.

Lula was a homemaker and a longtime member of Portsmouth First Church of the Nazarene. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, for revivals and funerals, and she opened her home for Cottage Prayer meetings. She was a gifted singer who used her talent in the nursing home even when she herself was a resident. Her daughter Diane would push Lula into the residents' rooms where she would sing songs of faith, sharing her love for the Lord with all her heart. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her ever-present hugs, and her love for God and family. She was a blessing and loved by all who knew her. Our loss is Heaven's gain.

Her husband Martin Sally, whom she married October 22, 1939 in Greenup, KY, preceded her in death December 19, 2004. Lula and Martin were truly a beautiful example of Christian love and marriage.

Surviving are her daughter, Diane (Paul) Clark, of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Adam Clark, Debbie Willis, Kelly Mattich, and Kimberly Jordan; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Sally of Columbus.

She was also preceded in death by her son, William Martin "Marty" Sally; three brothers, Samuel, Eugene, and Larman Dawson; two sisters, Lillian Diddle and Irene Frey; and a grandson, Michael Todd Clark.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am Saturday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Brian Daniels officiating and interment in Memorial Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 5 to 8 pm and Saturday from 9 to 10 am.
