BELLEW RITES TO BE HELD AT BARNARDSVILLE
The body of Tec. 5 Lenley E. Ballew, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ballew of Bernardsville, who was killed in action in France June 19, 1944, is expected to arrive in Asheville at 5 o'clock this afternoon.
Funeral services have been tentatively set for 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Bernardsville Baptist Church with Rev. Will Edwards officiating. Interment will be in Harwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Clark, Talmadge, Roy, Clarence, Henley, and Herschel Harwood.
In addition to the parents, Tec. 5 Ballew is survived by the widow, Mrs. Dona Dale Ballew; two sons, Lenley, Jr., and Wayne Ballew; two brothers, Reed and Monroe Ballew, and eight sisters, Mrs. Ruth Harwood, Mrs. Evelyn Payne, Miss Olene Ballew, Miss Marie Ballew, Miss Nina Lee Ballew, Miss Wanda Ballew, Miss Joyce Ann Ballew, and Miss Mary Margaret Ballew.
A graduate of Bernardsville high school in 1941, Tec. 5 Ballew enlisted in the army Jan. 16, 1943, and served in the cavalry. He received recruit training at Camp Young, Calif. and served for a short while in Paris, Tex.
In November 1943, Tec. 5 Ballew embarked from New York for the United Kingdom where he remained five months before being sent to France.
