Glen A. Anderson, age 93 of North Branch died on Friday, February 10, 2012 at Ecumen North Branch.
Glen was born on August 17, 1918 in North Branch to parents, Albert and Alma (Okerstrom) Anderson. He attended North Branch Schools and graduated in 1937. After high school he worked E.F. Hals and Sons as a truck driver and joined the U.S. Army in 1941 after the war broke out. Glen fought in WW II and was one of thousands who landed on Normandy Beach with the Fourth Calvary as well as seeing action in Battle of the Bulge Campaign. He saw additional duty in Northern France, Rhineland and the Ardennes. He was one of the few who were not wounded in two of the worst battles during WW II. After his return home he owned and operated the Swedish Tea Room in Chicago. Glen would later move back Minnesota where he took a job on the Iron Range working for Erie Mining Company. He would eventually move back to the North Branch area where he worked for 10 years at the Arsenal in Arden Hills and then went to work for the Chisago County Highway Dept. as a Highway Maintenance Supervisor where he retired from after 14 years. After retiring Glen loved to travel to many places in the U.S. as well as Europe. He was often seen cutting his lawn on his Wheel Horse Lawn Mower. He loved horses and in his later years took up the hobby of woodworking. Glen was a member of the North Branch American Legion Post #85 for over 65 years; The Eastern Star; North Branch Masonic Lodge and the Zurah Shrine Temple. Glen would become a resident of the Green Acres Care Center in 2005 and made the move to The Villages of North Branch where he resided until his death. He loved playing bingo while he was at The Villages and "giving the staff a hard time." He was given the nickname "Per" by some of his friends early in life.
Glen is survived by his daughter, Gail (Gary) Vande Kamp of North Branch, grandchildren, Cari Jones of Fayetteville, N.C.; Heather Vande Kamp of Rush City and Heidi Vande Kamp of North Branch; great grandchildren, Courtney and Candace Willis; Andrew Heavirland; Megan Kubes and Landon Bergeron.
