"Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death"
Philippians 1:20

It was with immense sadness and a deep sense of loss that word was received of the death of Philip James McCarthy on May 1, 2006, whose character and deeds in life stand as a testament to his faith in the Lord.
Born in Lodi, California, on February 12, 1988, Philip is remembered as a friend and confidant by the many persons whose lives he touched.

Always ready to extend the hand of friendship and to open his heart, Philip's love of family and commitment to the Lord has been evident in every manner in which he conducted his life. With an earnest spirit, Philip demonstrated his concern for the well-being of the community through his work as a volunteer Junior Lifeguard for the City of Sacramento, where he received training in first aid and water safety and aided lifeguards in all duties including learning-to-swim classes, and as Youth Aide with the Department of Parks and Recreation where he performed general park maintenance including painting, weeding, tree planting, and graffiti removal.

Extremely active in various capacities at his church, Philip has served as bass player and back up vocalist for the Worship Team at Calvary Chapel Sacramento, as well as volunteering at the church coffee shop and working part-time as the church custodian.

In his spare time, Philip loved hanging out with his friends while singing and writing music and was enthusiastic about the Celtic culture. He spent hours designing Celtic weave and knot patterns and learning about the Gaelic language.

Philip enjoyed playing the guitar, bass, piano, trumpet, and trombone, and was adding bagpipes to his repertoire, and his future plans included participation in the launching of an evangelistic youth outreach program.
With a wonderful sense of humor and genuine capacity to share his time and talents with others, Philip was a person who cared deeply and lived life fully, and his love and influence on others has had an important and lasting value.

Philip leaves to celebrate his legacy, his mother, Kathleen McCarthy; his father, Huey Tidwell; his brother, David Tidwell; his grandparents, Jack and Elizabeth McCarthy and Jerry Tidwell; and numerous other family members and loyal friends.

Friends are welcome for Visitation Monday, May 8th, 2006, from 2:00 to 7:00 P.M. at NICOLETTI, CULJIS & HERBERGER Funeral Home, 5401 Folsom Blvd. and are invited to attend Services Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at 10:00 A.M. at CALVARY CHAPEL SACRAMENTO, 7322 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento 95826; Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery.
