Actor. He was born in Ferndale, California. He began his career on stage, but soon, he moved to cinema where become one of the most known character actors of the cinema. He often played in westerns. Among others, he appeared in "This Gun for Hire" (1942), "The Farmer's Daughter" (1947), "The Miracle of the Bells" (1948), "Fort Apache" (1948), "Rancho Notorious" (1952). "This Could Be the Night" (1957), "Sunrise at Campobello" (1960), "Pocketful of Miracles" (1962), "Hush..Hush, Sweet Charlotte" (1964) and "The Great Sioux Massacre" (1965), his last film. On TV, he appeared in "The Real McCoys," "Petticoat Junction" and "My Friend Flicka," among others. He died in Los Angeles, California, and according the newspapers, he was cremated and his ashes scattered. (bio by: José L Bernabé Tronchoni)
