Funeral services for Dewey Jessie Bernard, 82, of 101 Pecan St., Jacksonville, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Hassell & Foster Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Broyles Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Bernard died Sunday (Jul 6, 1980) in his home after a sudden illness.

Mr. Bernard was born June 9, 1898 in Auburn, Ellis County, Texas to the late John Porter Bernard and Willie Brown Bernard.

A resident of Palestine for many years, living on the Water Works Road, he was a retired carpenter-contractor, and a member of the First Christian Church. He had resided in Jacksonville since 1979.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Honea Bernard of Jacksonville; a son, Mabran D. Bernard of Germany; two daughters, Mrs. Williard (Mavis) Poole of Jacksonville, and Mrs. John (Virginia) Grimsley of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
