A memorial service for Margie Virginia Roy Bernard, age 87, of Palestine, Texas will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cynthia Parker officiating. A private burial will be held at Roselawn Park. Margie passed away at Cartmell Home for Aged on January 6, 2012, following a short illness. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine. Margie was born in Mart, Texas, on September 7, 1924, to Thomas Hiram and Blanche Virginia Harding Roy. She moved with her family to Palestine at age 12 and attended school in Palestine. She was married to the late J.B. Bernard, Jr. on March 18, 1941, and is survived by their children, Michael Gene Bernard and his wife Debbie of Chandler, and Paula Elaine Bernard Trigg and her husband Danny of Elkhart; five granddaughters, Kathryn Shepherd and her husband Steven of Henderson, Julie Vaclavik and her husband Joe of Fairfield, Kelly Hagen of Keller, Shannon Petty and her husband Ron of Benbrook, and Amy Coburn of Keller; sister-in-law, Laverne Roy of Palestine; and cousin, Lorraine Singletary of Palestine. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Stephen; her parents; brothers, Thomas Hiram "Bud" Roy Jr., and Jack Roy; and sisters, Barbara Jean Novak, and Maurine Ivory. Margie enjoyed life as a homemaker. She was an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed crochet, reading, and gardening. After her children were raised she worked in the Reagan Junior High lunchroom for a number of years. Her last years were joyfully spent playing Skip-Bo and Bingo with her friends at Sterling House. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandchildren, Riley Vaclavik of Fairfield, Claire and Bennett Shepherd of Henderson, Miles Woodall of Athens, Georgia, Tyler Hagen of Keller, Sidnee Molloy of Benbrook, and Ryann Coburn of Keller. The family will receive friends at the funeral home chapel one hour prior to the 2:00 PM memorial service. Donations may be made in Margie's memory to Cartmell Home for Aged, 2212 West Reagan Street, Palestine, Texas 75801 or the charity of your choice.
