Daniel married Amerilla Jones in New York, where their six children were born in Cattaraugus County:
Betsy (Mrs. Amissa Cool and later Mrs. John Mundy);
Lucy Ann (Mrs. Abraham Berry and later Mrs. Henry Frasier);
Daniel J Pettengill (served and died during Civil War);
Charles Pettengill (served and died during Civil War);
Mary (Mrs. James Thomas and later Mrs. Job Bellinger); and
George Pettengill, who married Mary Jane Persons.
Daniel died at the home of his son, George, in Flushing. His funeral service was held at the Free Methodist Church near their home, and his body brought back to the village for interment in Flushing Cemetery.
