Frontier peace officer. Hindman was a deputy sheriff of Lincoln County, NM under Sheriff William Brady. Hindman and Brady were ambushed and killed on the streets of Lincoln by Billy the Kid and members of his gang. They were both buried on Brady's ranch east of Lincoln. For location of the grave, see the entry for William Brady. Hindman's headstone reads: "To the memory of George Hindman, Dep.S. killed April 1, 1878." Deputy Sheriff Hindman's name is found at Panel 13, W-3 on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC.
