Frontier peace officer. He was a deputy sheriff of Chaves County, New Mexico and city marshal of Roswell, NM. He was instrumental in bringing down the High Five gang led by Black Jack Christian. He arrested George Musgraves for the murder of George Parker, although Musgraves was later acquitted. As a soldier with the 1st US Volunteer Cavalry he was also one of Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders in the Spanish American War and also served in the 11th US Volunteer Cavalry.
