Frontier peace officer. He was a lawman who served as a deputy United States marshal and was a good friend and business partner with famous lawman Bill Tilghman. Brown was a member of the "Dodge City Peace Commission" and sat for the famous photo of that group of noted lawmen and gunfighters that included Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson. Brown is seated at the far right. Brown's grave was unmarked for years, but a rude marker is on his grave now. Two of his children, William S. (1887-1953) and Ethel (1897-1977) are buried beside him and their graves are marked.
