According to news reports in November, 2003, this 22 year old was a fireman in the Navy and sitting on a dock at Pearl Harbor when he was killed in the Japanese attack on 7 December 1941. His unidentified remains were listed as an "Unknown" and originally buried at the National Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu. However, in 2003, DNA testing proved the disinterred remains to be that of "PL" Vanderpool. His remains will be reinterred with his parents at their family plot in Braymer, Missouri, on 7 December 2003 at 1pm.
