Civil War Union Army Officer. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in Company E, 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry on August 9, 1861, and was mustered in on August 20, 1861. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant of Company L on March 25, 1862. On August 26, 1863 he was commissioned as a Captain on Company A, 2nd New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry, but never joined or was mustered into that unit. He was promoted to Captain and commander of the 1st New Jersey's Company B on December 8, 1863, a position he served in through the end of the war. Sadly, a month after the surrender of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, he as accidentally killed when he was thrown from his horse.
