Civil War Union Army Soldier. He first served as a Private in Company K, 20th Pennsylvania (Three-month) Volunteer Infantry, being mustered in on April 30, 1861, and being mustered out on July 24, 1861.
He was mustered in as a Private in Company A, 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry in August 5, 1861. He served until he was honorably discharged on September 16, 1864.
