Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was mustered in as a Sergeant in Company M, 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry on September 23, 1861. He re-enlisted on January 1, 1864, and was promoted to Commissary Sergeant of the Company on the same day. He served through the end of the war, and was honorably mustered out on July 24, 1865.
