Don was a lifelong resident of Evansville, IN. He graduated from Reitz High School in 1948 and was the Athletic Student Manager for the Basketball Team. He was the owner-operator of North Side Hardware Store from 1948-1995. He was confirmed at Bethel Evangelical and Reformed Church in 1945, now the Bethel United Church of Christ, and is presently a member of Salem United Methodist Church. He was in the United States Naval Reserve, Reed Masonic Lodge No. 316 F.&A.M. for 57 years and the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed talk radio, the stock market, yard work and NASCAR.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, whom he married on March 20, 1953, Delehia (Reid) Nuhring; three daughters, Lisa (husband Mike) Bey, Cynthia (husband Steve) Copeland, and Krista Simmons; 11 grandchildren, Christopher Bey, Corey Bey, Cameron Bey, Jason (wife Gretchen) Copeland, Michelle (husband Joe) Reeder, Stacy Copeland, Stephanie (husband Jason) Grabert, Andrew Pokorney, Jacob Pokorney, Kaylee Simmons and Nolan Simmons; 4 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Doris (husband Barry) Burleigh; one nephew; and several cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Reba (Bender) Nuhring; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Max and Helen Reid; and son-in-law, Terry Simmons.
