He was a Realtor with FC Tucker and was awarded Rookie of the Year as well as President's Club Honors. Don was a member of Reed Masonic Lodge #316 and East Side Christian Church. He was formerly active in Boys Scouts of America, an avid hunter, and UK Basketball fan. He was a Kidney Transplant Recipient for 15 years and was known for his strong work ethic. He dearly loved his wife, Barb, and felt she was a blessing to him. He was grateful for his kidney transplant that gave him more time to enjoy seeing his sons become adults. He touched so many lives with his humor and smile. He was deeply loved by his family and will be missed.

Don is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara Nichols; sons, Wes Nichols of San Diego and Brad (Kara) Nichols of Evansville; granddaughter, Chloe Nichols; mother-in-law, Blanche Maynard; stepmother, Dorothy Nichols of Louisville, KY; brothers, Jack (Debbie) Nichols, Jr. of Mobile, AL, Rick Nichols and Jerry Doan; sister, Brenda Roberts, all of Louisville, KY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 19, 2010, at East Side Christian Church, 2001 Bayard Park Drive, officiated by Dr. Linda Parker. Friends may visit Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, and Saturday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.

Don and his family are so appreciative of the care from his doctors, Dr. Stewart Smith, Dr. James Evanson and Dr. Edward Fox, and the nurses who cared for him.
