Gladys Adams, longtime Cushing resident, passed away in her residence on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the age of 83 years.

The daughter of the late Leonard Arthur and Edia Terrel Williams, Gladys was born on February 8, 1928 in Quinton, Oklahoma and was raised and received her early education south of Chandler.

Gladys met the love of her life, Roy Adams, while attending high school in Wellston, graduating from Wellston High School. Gladys and Roy were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church in Wellston on December 18, 1946, when Roy returned home from serving in World War II. The couple lived in the "Vet Village" at Oklahoma A&M College before moving to Cushing in 1949. Upon arriving in Cushing, Gladys worked at a dry cleaner and then opened a day care center. She fell in love with gardening and also enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing.

The couple celebrated 65 years of marriage in December of 2011.

Gladys was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cushing for over 60 years, where she served several years working in the nursery.

Survivors include her husband Roy of the home; one daughter, Judy Adams of Ardmore; one son, Dale Adams of Birmingham, England; one granddaughter, Deborah Adams of Birmingham, England; one brother Glenn Williams of Colorado Springs, CO; one sister Opal Williams Johnston of Sapulpa, OK; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde Williams, George E. Williams and Herbert Williams and two sisters, Ruby M. Williams Stice and Sadie I. Williams Draeger.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 2:00 pm. in the First Baptist Church with Pastor Keith Moore officiating.

Burial will follow in the New Zion Cemetery in Chandler.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund in her memory.
