Emmer was the daughter of Joe C. and Mary Etter (Cravens) Bryant. She was married to William Lilburn Bottom. They had three children, Beatrice, Robert and Frances. Her tombstone as well as the Kentucky Death Index recorded her last name with an "s" on the end. I verified with her daughter, Frances (my 1st cousin), that there was not an "s" on the end of their name. She had thought her mother's name was Emma and that is what is recorded in the Death Index, but her father (my grandfather) recorded it as Emmer and that is the name on the stone. However, she did prefer to be called Emma.

In 1929, she and Lilburn were living in Russell Springs so it is possible she died at home. She had tuberculosis and that is what caused her death at such a young age.

Added in February 2008:

Mom never got to really know her sister, Emmer, because Mom was just three when she died. However, Mom kept in constant contact with Emmer's daughter, Frances. They would call one another and pray for each other. Mom often said that Frances simply prayed her through the rough times of her life.

I like to think that Mom is in heaven getting to know all those who passed on too soon to really know them in earthly terms. Emmer is one she really wanted to see again. Emmer's daughter, Beatrice (my oldest first cousin, born in 1919) just recently joined them on January 2, 2008 (two years to the date on which Mom died).

A big thank you to my fellow Hoosier girl who so kindly sponsored my Aunt Emmer.
