Wife of William Sullivan. Mother of my grandfather, Cassius Sullivan, who is buried at Freedom Church Cemetery. Also buried at Bethlehem: her grandson, Gilbert (Cassius and Balla's son); daughter-in-law, Balla (Cassius' wife); daughters, Theona and Rhina (and husband, William Howard Burton); son, Lilburn (with wife, Jewel); grandsons, Harold and Glendo (sons of Lilburn and Jewel); son, Otha (with wife, Sallie); son, Taylor (with wife, Sallie); granddaughter, (Taylor's daughter) Nellie Atchley (with husband, Bryan); and daughters, Nancy Alley and Della Ann Smiley (with husband, Willie). Her daughter JoAnn Bryant (with husband, Charlie) is buried at Freedom. Her daughter Nora Skaggs is buried in Muncie, Indiana, and daughter, Valeria C. Hale is buried in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Martha's tombstone is inscribed with the date of death as April 14, 1930 and her obituary indicates the 14th as well but her death certificate indicates she died April 17, 1930. Interestingly the census was taken on April 15, 1930. The obituary indicates she died in Gentrys Mill, Adair County and the death certificate indicates Russell Springs, Russell County.

The Russell County Birth Record shows Martha Jane was born December 21, 1857. However, her death certificate shows October 13 and the stone shows the 23rd. The 1900 census indicates she was born October 1858. The Russell County Birth Record was a ledger of births prepared by the county clerk and is more likely to be in error versus her family's record of her birth and the 1900 census.
