Wife of Lucian Bryant.

I know so little about my aunt. She was married to my Uncle Lucian who died from Leukemia in 1950. She and Lucian lived near Aunt Nona (Lucian's sister) and Uncle Bill in Canton, Ohio. Nona and Bill moved to Florida in 1961. I don't know if Lillian moved there first or if she moved there after them. When she passed away, her residence was in Miramar, Florida.

The cemetery had her name recorded as Lillian M. Bryant. Further searches disclosed that her maiden name was Mikusa.

Her parents immigrated to the United States just after the turn of the century. The 1910 census, recorded on April 19, shows that her father arrived in 1901 while her mother arrived in 1903. In 1910, the family was living in Canton, Stark County, Ohio. The census taker recorded the last name as Meckusa. It is not certain what her father's name was, but it seems to have been Andrew, but it was spelled Andrue. Her mother was Mary. The record shows they were age 30 and 21, respectively. They had been married for four years. The record indicated that Mary had 2 children and both were living. The oldest, Andy, was reported as being 3 years old. Lillian was 5 months old. Also living with them was Andrew's 20 year old sister, Lena, and his niece, Josephine. The census indicated that Andrew and Mary were born in Hun. and that their native language was Magyar, which is the language spoken by most Hungarians and is a member of the Finno-Ugric language group that is related very, very distantly to Finnish, Estonian and about a dozen other very minor languages in Russia and western Siberia.

Ohio Death Records show that Andrew N. Mikusa died March 22, 1919 in Stark County, Ohio.

In 1920, the family was still living in the same place. Mary was listed as head, age 31 and widowed. This record shows that Mary immigrated in 1892 and was naturalized in 1905. Her place of birth was recorded as Hun-Cechoslovak and Slovak as her native language. (Prior to WWI the Austro-Hungarian Empire encompassed the area that would become the nations of Hungary and Czechoslovakia after the war.) Mary's occupation was listed as retail merchant of groceries. Four children (three sons and one daughter) were listed: Andrew age 12, Lillian age 11, Alexander age 8, and Edward age 4.

By 1930, Mary had remarried. The family was still in Canton but at a new address. The man she married was a Russian immigrant who's name was Frank Lasduk (but the spelling is hard to read in the census). He worked as a laborer in a factory and Mary was no longer working as a merchant. Frank had 2 children of his own; one born in Pennsylvania and one born in Ohio. This time Mary's birth country was listed as Czechoslovakia. Lillian was listed Lillie, age 21, single, born in Ohio, with both parents born in Czechoslovakia, working in a factory as an assembler. Alexander, her brother, was listed as Alexandra, age 19, single, also born in Ohio, working as a tester on motor cars. Edward, age 15, was attending school. Another child was listed as Irene Mikusa but was listed as Frank's daughter with both parents born in Czechoslovakia. It's impossible to determine which part are the errors and which part is correct for Irene.

Lillian's brother, Andrew, cannot be located in the 1930 census. The Ohio Death Record shows an Andrew J. Mikusa who died November 1, 1928 in Stark County, Ohio. The age was not recorded, but I believe it to be her brother.

Lillian and Lucian had no children. Only I and my cousin, Brett Conover, have researched Lucian and posted information about him on ancestry.com. If anyone reads this who knows more about this family, please contact me so I can add the information.
