Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. He was a member of the 1960 United States Olympic Hockey Team that won the Gold Medal at the Winter Games held in Squaw Valley, California. Born Robert Barry Cleary, he made his initial mark on the ice while attending Belmont Hill Prep School, where he was a contributor to three state private school championships. He continued his athletic excellence at Harvard University and became the school's all-time scorer, as he broke his older brother Bill's record. He achieved All-American honors and was awarded the Walter Brown Trophy. He earned a spot on the 1959 United States National Team and later was a contributor, along with his brother Bill Cleary and Bob McVey, to the United States' Gold Medal success at the Winter Games in 1960. After his Olympic experience, he worked in the insurance industry. He was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1981.
