"The Valley Center Index" 2/26/1953 Obit for Les:

Death Claims Les Greenbank here Feb. 23.

Sudden death struck at the index office at 1:15pm Monday, Feb. 23, claiming the life of 58-year old Lester P. Greenbank, owner and publisher of this newspaper since 1917.

The cause of death was attributed to a sudden heart attack. Attempts to revive him moments later failed. It goes without saying that no one can take his place here- either in the office, the city, or the county. He was a busy man. And with his many affairs came the responsibilities and worries involved. But he loved his work, and would not have traded places with anyone in the world. Words fail me in an attempt to write or speak a suitable obituary. Facts about his life already have been printed in other papers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Valley Center Methodist Church. Interment will be Sedwick Hillside Cemetery. The Byrd-Snodgrass Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Details of the service, and other information will appear next week.

Those who had not the privilege of knowing Mr. Greenbank will never realize what an experience they have missed. May his soul rest in peace.

*****
