Obituary.
Died at Belle Plaine, Kas., at the residence of her son, Mr. Yewell Griffith on the night of Dec. 27, 1892 Mrs. Elizabeth Griffith aged seventy-nine years and four months.

Mrs. Griffith was born in Scott county, Tenn., on the 27th of August 1813, and was married to Mr. Joseph Griffith in the year 1830. Her maiden name was Sexton.

In the year 1863 Mr. Griffith died and shortly after Mrs. Griffith removed with her family to Kentucky. Twelve years after - in 1875 - the family removed to Belle Plaine, Kansas.

Mrs. Griffith united with the Baptist church in Tennessee soon after her marriage. On going to Kentucky she united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church and was a member of that church at the time of her death.

Mrs. Griffith was the mother of eleven children. Their names are Mrs. T. Looper, Mrs. Grant Looper, Mr. Richard Griffith, Mrs. Martha Cooper, Mr. Yewell Griffith, Mr. Hugh Griffith, Mr. C.C. Griffith, Mrs. E.M. Carter, Mrs. Julia Wilfoundh, Mrs. A.B. Cornwell, the youngest, a little girl died in infancy.

The husband and father died during the war and left quite a burden upon the mother. During those troublous times the burdens and cares were often very great and the earnest prayer was often lifted to the throne of grace for help and guidance. It is her testimony that God did not fail to answer her prayers and troubles.

It was always her desire to live to see her children grown and settled in life and she has frequently said of late that her work was done and she was ready to go to her rest.

Her faith was strong and her hope clear and she seemed to have no doubts or fears as to her acceptance with Christ. She was ready for the Master's call and was even anxious to go to her savior.

During the twelve years of poor health and during her last sickness, attended at times with much suffering, there was much patience and fortitude. She passed away peacefully and without struggle or apparent suffering.

The long life is ended, the last of those many busy days has come and the early pilgrimage has closed.

The efforts, the labors, the kindness, the goodly advice of this mother will not be forgotten and long will her memory be cherished by her children and her children's children, by her kindred and her friends.

Such a life of patient toil and faithful effort and of trust in God and hope in Christ gives its good lessons to all.

The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church on Thursday Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. and were attended by a large number of her friends and the friends of the family. The services were conducted by the pastor assisted by Rev. W.V. Burns, pastor of the M.E. church.

The sermon was preached from Job 5:26 "Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in his season."

The remains were interred in the Belle Plaine cemetery. The friends in their great affliction have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.

Elizabeth was born Elizabeth Sexton on 8/27/1818 in Campbell County, Tennessee the daughter of Timothy Sexton and Nancy Ellis.
