Herman and Nannette Perry adopted their son, Vance Emery (shown between them in the picture at right). Herman's sister Hazel (1898-1996) married Emery Lee Hart (1896-1924) and had three children, Vance Emery (1920-1995), Maxwell Levera (1919-1983) and Perry Lee (1922-2002). When Emery died in 1924, Hazel couldn't handle the three boys and they were adopted out. Vance went to Herman and Nannette, since they could not have children of their own. Maxwell and Perry each went to separate members of the Hart family.
