Charles Hunt Osborn was born near Racine, Wisc., December 16, 1848, and died at the home of a son, Seth P. Osborn, at Fort Dodge, Kansas, June 24, 1941, being 92 years, 6 months and 8 days of age.

When but a lad he moved with his parents to Fairfax, Iowa. While living there, his parents became charter members of the First Congregational church of Fairfax. He became a member of the same church and remained with his faith in God to the end.
While in Iowa, he attended Grinnell college. After he had left college he came west to Nebraska, where he engaged in the teaching profession for a few years. In 1878 he came to Kansas, and homesteaded in Rooks county.

In Fairbury, Nebraska, on November 24, 1879 he was united in marriage to Lucie Marie Evans, who preceded him in death in 1916. To this union were born four children, Dwight Evans Osborn of Delphos, Mrs. Fannie Read of Osawatomie, Mrs. Nettie Perry of Gravette, Ark., and Seth P. Osborn of Fort Dodge.

In 1884, they moved to Ottawa county and raised their family on a farm near Delphos. Here the resided until 1914 when he and his wife moved to Arkansas, where Mrs. Osborn died in 1916. Since then he has made his home with the children.

He was always a man to stand for the highest and noblest things in life, and had been called upon many times for counsel, being a leader in the community where he lived. He always wanted to be of service and help where he could, and endeavored to live at peace with whomsoever he might meet. Truly he lived a life of usefulness.

He is survived by his four children; one brother, Dr. Herbert Osborn of Columbus, Ohio; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of friends. He was laid to rest by the side of his companion near Gravette, Arkansas.
