Kent H. Black, M.D. passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital on April 11, 2014. He was 58 years old.
After graduating high school in 1976, Kent gained his Bachelor of Science degrees in the fields of Biology and Psychology from Utah State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1979. He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Utah in 1983. He practiced medicine in Colorado for more than 30 years, including serving as the Director of Community Hospital in Grand Junction, CO for more than 16 years. His true passion was his gift for helping people.
Kent was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he was able to hold several callings throughout the years. Kent had a knack for connecting with people. He was always willing to listen and yield his own experiences in an effort to assist and comfort in any situation. Those who knew him knew a compassionate and caring man.
Kent is survived by mother, Martha Colleen Black; wife, Ardeanne Black; brothers, Randy Black and Kerry Black, and sister Carla Black, all of Salt Lake City, UT; sons, J.D. Black (Kimberly) of St. Augustine, FL, and Wm Dallas Black (Kristen) of Palisade, CO; daughter, Andrea Black of Glenwood Springs, CO, and granddaughters, Lillian and Avery Black of St. Augustine, FL and Alexia Black of Palisade, CO. He was preceded in death by his father, Keith Wallace Black.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints chapel on Wednesday, April 16th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., 3076 E 1/2 Rd, Fruitvale, CO 81503.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be sent to the Kent Black Memorial Fund at any Wells Fargo Bank location.
