He was in the last cage, in the last row, at the Humane Society. He sat quietly, motionless, watching as I approached. When I got to the cage and stuck my fingers through the chain link, he licked my hand. Once. I looked into those big brown eyes and I just knew this was the dog for me. That was three years ago.

Buddy the Wunderdog became a loyal friend. He took every step I took, even if that meant getting up from bed in the middle of the night to follow me to the bathroom. When I was sick, he was always cuddled right beside me, doing his best to take care of me. He loved "cookies" (Milk Bones), popcorn, crackers, potato chips and cheese.

Buddy must have had a hard life before he came to me, because he almost always very serious and he didn't know how to play. But as time went on, he did "loosen up." One of the greatest joys in his life was moving to Florida and having a big yard in which to roam.

In 2005, he moved cross country with me, after Clinton and I got married. He grew to love Clinton as much as he did me. He even came to accept Katie, Clinton's chihuahua, as a friend and that she was not a rival for our affection.

A true friend, a wonderful companion, my Buddy.

Pocketful of Rainbows

I don't worry whenever skies are gray above.
Got I pocket full of rainbows.
Got a heart full of love.

Mr. Heartache, I found a way to make him leave.
Got a pocket full of rainbows.
Got a star up my sleeve.

Kiss me extra tender, hold me extra tight.
Cause I'm saving your sweetness for a lonely night.

No more teardrops, now that I've found a love so true.
Got a pocket full of rainbows.
Got an arm full of you.

Kiss me extra tender, hold me extra tight.
Cause I'm saving your sweetness for a lonely night.

No more heartaches, now that I've found a love so true.
Got a pocket full of rainbows, and an arm full of you.
